Depression
It is not uncommon to feel sad from time to time. Unhappiness and self blame may occur when we have a problem, fail at something or experience loss; these feelings when short term, are generally not a concern. With depression however one’s day to day living is impacted for a longer period of time and may include a consistent low mood, low energy, not enjoying things that used to be enjoyable, feeling worthless, difficulty making decisions and so on.
Amelia’s approach to working with Clients affected by depression includes understanding the impact of the depression in the Client’s life and how the Client might wish to change their relationship with depression. Underlying thoughts and assumptions that may be contributing to the depression and barriers to change are explored and alternative ideas that the Client feels are appropriate are discussed and experimented with. Clients’ hopes and goals are discussed and addressed through action plans developed collaboratively. Progress is consistently monitored and all successes acknowledged and celebrated as the Client makes changes according to his/her wishes.
Wellness Counseling
Amelia’s approach to wellness counselling includes understanding a Client’s concerns and their hopes and goals. An understanding of actual and potential barriers is also important. These are addressed using a variety of counselling modalities so that Clients can achieve their greatest potential. Once a client’s goals are identified, Amelia and the client will work to develop clear action plans that will assist the client to achieve their goals. Goals and actions are based on each individual client’s needs and desires; it is not a one size fits all approach. Amelia guides and supports the client with her experience, knowledge and encouragement.
